Sputnik is a leading-edge company building software for Wi-Fi networks.
You will be responsible for making our Linux-based data center work
smoothly, provisioning new systems, monitoring our servers and network,
documenting all processes. You are a team player, a self starter,
mature, and responsible. You enjoy working in a small, fast-paced
startup environment.
Position can be part-time contract or full-time employment, depending
upon candidate.
Skills Required:
- 2+ years Linux System Administration (RedHat Enterprise, Fedora,
WhiteBox) in a production environment
- 2+ years networking experience (configuring TCP/IP networks)
- 2+ years managing web sites running Apache
- 1+ years Perl
Additional skills which will distinguish the qualified candidate:
- Load balancing/HA experience
- PostgreSQL tuning and performance enhancement, filesystem-level
- Wi-Fi experience
- Asterisk experience
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage and monitor multiple machines running Linux operating systems
(mostly RedHat/WBEL/Fedora) which provide the core services to a growing
number of Wi-Fi hotspot management service providers
- Extend or develop monitoring applications for all critical system
components
- Be on-call 24x7 for system failure resolution
- Work closely with application developers to ensure service delivery to
application layer programs (databases, web servers)
- Assist with building backup plans for all system component failures
- Document all procedures on all systems
- Perform installation/repair of equipment at co-location facilities
Secondary responsibilities:
- Manage and monitor company email services, including virus/spam
protection
- Manage and maintain office LAN and WAN connectivity
- Manage and maintain authoritative DNS servers and zones
- Implement and manage additional productivity applications (office
asterisk pbx, file sharing, ticket systems (rt), group calendaring,
etc.) as required
The preferred applicant for this position will have extensive experience
with open-source tools as means to solve specific business or system
problems.
As the company grows in size, this position may become more focused on
one set of responsibilities, allowing the candidate to choose a future
growth path which may best suit their interests and abilities.
Must be able to lift and manipulate equipment up to 80 lbs into racks.
This position has less than 5% travel (typically for installations only.
Valid driver's license and transportation is required.) This is not a
position that currently has supervisory or management responsibilities
for other staff.
Some relocation fees possible for outstanding applications, but local
candidates strongly preferred.
